Handbook
Seven articles that read the IANA port registry by topic: five by area of use, which cover many numbers that have no page of their own, and two on how the registry is organized. Each one is built on tables computed from the registry file.
- Database port numbers in the IANA registry
Which numbers IANA assigns to postgresql, mysql, ms-sql-s, mongodb, redis and 107 other database names, with protocols and registration dates.
- Remote access ports: ssh, telnet, 3389 and 5900
What the IANA registry lists on 22, 23, 3389, 5900 and the X11 range 6000–6063, with the TLS forms and the remote-session names around them.
- Web and proxy ports beyond 80 and 443
http on 80, https on 443, http-alt on 591, 8008 and 8080, pcsync-https on 8443 and socks on 1080: what the IANA registry records for web and proxy names.
- Mail ports: smtp, submission, imap and pop3
Port 25 smtp, 587 submission, 465 submissions, 143 imap, 993 imaps, 110 pop3 and 995 pop3s in the IANA registry, with the RFCs each entry cites.
- Messaging and IoT ports: mqtt, amqp, coap, xmpp
mqtt on 1883, secure-mqtt on 8883, amqp on 5672, coap on 5683 and xmpp on 5222 and 5269: the IANA entries for messaging and device protocols, with dates.
- Well-known ports 0–1023, number by number
686 of the 1,024 System Port numbers carry an IANA assignment. How they spread across 0–1023, which cite an RFC, which are dated, and which are private use.
- TCP, UDP, SCTP and DCCP in the port registry
Most port numbers are assigned on both TCP and UDP, but newer ones usually cover a single transport. Counts by period, with the 88 SCTP and 9 DCCP numbers.
